Our team

Our team is based at GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences, Potsdam, and the Institute of Photogrammetry and geoinformation (IPI) at Leibniz University Hannover, Hannover. We are doing some cool (ice sheets, glaciers) and hot (volcano, and urban heat island) stuff to understand how to effectively use multiple remotely sensed data to understand geo-hazards in the light of climate change.

Group Leader

Prof. Dr. Mahdi Motagh

My research interest is focused on the use of RADAR remote sensing data to investigate processes related to various types of geological phenomena and engineering applications, such as active tectonics, landslides, floods, groundwater extraction/injection, underground mining, glacier motion and ice mass change, dam stability, and anthropogenic activities in urban areas.

Senior Scientist

Dr. Sigrid Roessner

My research focuses on applied remote sensing and GIS-based methodological developments. My main research interests are in natural hazards, focusing on gravitational mass movements and urban ecology. In my research, I have gained experience using a wide range of satellite and airborne remote sensing data including multispectral, hyperspectral, and radar data. In the field of natural hazards I have attained strong regional expertise in Central Asia mainly focusing on Kyrgyzstan.
